What Is A “Troy Ounce”?

Troy ounce is the standard unit of measurement for precious metals. 1 Troy ounce consists of 31.1034768 grams. When viewing precious metal products, “Troy ounces” and “ounces” are used interchangeably. However, base metals like copper are not measured in Troy ounces. These are measured in avoirdupois (regular) ounces. A regular ounce weighs roughly 28 grams.
